Evalumate for Chrome

This policy covers the Evalumate Chrome extension, published by Evalumate LLC. The Evalumate iOS app and your Evalumate account are covered by the Evalumate app privacy policy.

In short: the extension shows you Evalumate reviews for the product, brand or store on the page you are looking at. It only ever searches for names that already appear in Evalumate, never the page's address, and it collects no analytics, keeps no history of the pages you visit, and sells nothing.

What the extension reads on the page you are viewing

It reads only while the side panel is open and you are signed in.

The address of the tab. Used on your device to notice when you move to a different page, and to recognise the store you are on. The address itself is never sent anywhere.

Product details the page publishes. The product name, brand name and store name, taken from the page's own product metadata (structured data and meta tags), its title, and, on a handful of large retailers, the product title and brand line shown on the page.

The extension does not read anything you type on the page, does not read your cookies or passwords for other sites, does not change the page, and makes no network request to the sites you visit.

What is sent off your device, and why

Everything goes to Evalumate's backend, which runs on Google Firebase. No other company receives anything.

• To sign you in: your email address and password, sent to Firebase Authentication. The password is not stored by the extension. "Forgot password?" sends your email address so a reset link can be emailed to you.
• To find reviews: when you choose Everyone, the product, brand or store name detected on the page is sent as a search term to Cloud Firestore, Evalumate's database, but only if that name already appears in Evalumate's list of brands, products and stores that people have reviewed. A page whose names are not on that list, such as your bank or your email, sends nothing. Following sends nothing about the page at all: it matches against reviews already loaded into the panel. The page's address is never sent. Evalumate does not store these searches or keep a record of them; Google's infrastructure may keep the short-lived operational request logs any web service does.
• When you like or comment: the like or comment is saved to your Evalumate account exactly as if you had made it in the iOS app, and the post's author receives a notification showing your username, profile picture and, for a comment, its text, unless they have turned that notification off.
• To verify the extension: a request to Evalumate's server, carrying your sign-in token, for a short-lived security token that identifies requests as coming from a signed-in Evalumate user.
• Pictures: review photos and profile pictures are loaded from Google's storage servers, which, like any server you load an image from, see your IP address.

What is stored on your device

One thing: your sign-in session (a Firebase sign-in token and refresh token, and your account ID), in chrome.storage.session. This storage is held in memory, not written to disk, not synced to your other devices, and cleared when you sign out, close Chrome, or remove the extension.

What the extension does not do

• No analytics, telemetry, crash reporting or advertising identifiers.
• No record of the pages you visit, kept anywhere.
• No views recorded: scrolling past a review in the panel is not reported to anyone.
• No code downloaded from the internet. Everything the extension runs ships inside it.

What you can see

The extension shows you only what your Evalumate account already permits: your own posts, posts from accounts you follow, and posts from public accounts. Posts from private accounts you do not follow are not shown. Posts from accounts you have blocked, and from accounts that have blocked you, are not shown in either direction.

Sharing

Nothing is sold, rented, or shared with third parties, and nothing is used for advertising or to assess creditworthiness. Google processes data on Evalumate's behalf as its hosting provider: policies.google.com/privacy.

The use of information received by this extension adheres to the Chrome Web Store User Data Policy, including its Limited Use requirements.

Where your data is processed

Evalumate's backend runs on Google Cloud in the United States. If you use the extension from outside the United States, the data described above is sent to and processed there.

Your rights

You can delete your account, and everything in it, from Settings in the iOS app, or by emailing us at the address below. You can also ask us what we hold about you, or ask us to correct it. If you are in the UK or EU you have rights under the UK GDPR / GDPR, including access, rectification, erasure, restriction and objection; if you are in California you have rights under the CCPA/CPRA, including the right to know and the right to delete. We do not sell or share personal information as those terms are defined by the CCPA.

Children

Evalumate is not intended for anyone under 13, and the extension cannot be used to create an account. If you believe a child has an account, contact us and we will remove it.

Reviews are people's opinions

Reviews, ratings and comments shown in the extension are written by Evalumate users and are their own opinions. Evalumate does not verify them and is not paid by any brand or store to show, rank or hide them. Use of the extension is subject to the Evalumate Terms.

Retention and deletion

The sign-in session is discarded when you sign out or close the browser. Removing the extension removes it immediately.

Likes and comments you make from the extension belong to your Evalumate account. You can remove them in the iOS app, and deleting your account in the iOS app deletes them along with the rest of your data.

Changes

Material changes will be posted here with a new "last updated" date, and in the extension's Chrome Web Store listing.
